“Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” — Suzy Kassem

Seven years ago, I ran my very first NLP Practitioner training course and certified my first cohort of five NLP Practitioners.

I remember exactly how nervous I felt. I had a strong belief about how the training should be delivered, and stepping into that role pushed me far outside my comfort zone. If I’m honest, I doubted myself. I questioned whether I was ready enough, capable enough, or experienced enough.

Because of that doubt, I asked someone else to help me deliver the course; to act as a safety net. At the time, it felt reassuring. In reality, it wasn’t the right decision. Their delivery style was very different from mine, and it didn’t align with how I wanted to teach or connect with delegates.

In hindsight, I was fortunate they couldn’t attend every day. When I became fully responsible for my own delivery, everything changed. I trusted myself. I found my rhythm and flow. And that was when I truly began to flourish as an NLP trainer!

Since then, I’ve delivered 10 NLP Practitioner courses, and the evolution has been incredible:

  • The training content and materials have been refined and evolved
  • My delivery has improved as I’ve learned what works best for delegates
  • My approach is now more flexible, relaxed, and the courses are such FUN!

What this journey reminded me is that self-doubt often blocks the very growth we’re searching for.

Now, whenever doubt shows up or I question whether I’m ready to take the next step, I ask myself three powerful questions:

1. What am I specifically worried about?

In the early days, my fear was that I didn’t understand the NLP material well enough to explain it clearly. Delegate feedback has repeatedly shown me this concern was unfounded.

2. What has to happen for me to be ready?

In most cases, more time doesn’t equal more preparation. Growth comes from action — not waiting until everything feels perfect.

3. Why am I doing this?

Because I believe NLP skills are too powerful not to share. Supporting others to change their mindset, achieve personal transformation, and live the life they truly want brings me an incredible sense of fulfilment.

I took this learning into my first NLP Master Practitioner course, and the results were exceptional. The growth, confidence, and transformation I witnessed in the delegates reinforced why I do this work.

Now, as I prepare to run my second NLP Master Practitioner training, I still notice some nerves — but I also know this course will be even better than the last. As we say in NLP:
“There is no failure, only feedback.”

So, what are you holding back from because of self-doubt?

Ask yourself these three questions and notice how your perspective begins to shift.
